Way to change patches with a midi signal?

Is there a way to program a patch change using a midi signal? It would be nice to do that without having to hit the down arrow on my laptop.
Thanks!

Just send a MIDI program change from any MIDI device capable of sending this (which is virtually all MIDI devices). Make sure that the program change number corresponds to the patch number in MainStage (although some devices start their numbering from #000 and others start from #001 so bear this in mind)

This isn't a criticism but from your question it sounds like you don't have much MIDI experience.....just ask if you need a more in-depth explanation as to how to send MIDI program changes, but make sure you include info on which devices you have.

More explanation would be helpful. I am new to midi and have mostly been relying on the "Learn functions" in mainstage to get by. I have an M-audio Axiom connected with USB to my mainstage 2 running on my macbook 10.5.8. I also have an FCB1010 connected to my Fast track ultra 8r via midi.
Everything is working together.

I just want to be able to select which instrument "Patch" in mainstage is playing from a button on my Axiom so that I don't have to stop playing and click it on my laptop. Any help is appreciated!

Hi

There are basically 2 ways to achieve what you want:

1) Assign buttons on your keyboard controller to transmit MIDI Program Change messages (consult the controller manual). Mainstage can incrementally assign Patches to incoming PC messages (in the Patch List use the 'Action' gear wheel menu and choose "Reset Program Change Numbers"), or you can assign the messages manually (in the Patch Inspector Attributes Tab).

This method will allow you to select any patch quickly.

2) You could use two controller switches on your keyboard (transmitting MIDI Controller messages or possibly other types of message), and MIDI Learn them in Layout mode to two Mainstage buttons. At Concert level in Edit Mode, assign these buttons to "Next/Previous Patch".

With this method, you will have to step through the Patches in the list to get to the sounds that you want.
