Restoring my ipod touch 4g without updating?

Ive been trying to restore my ipod touch 4g cos of numerous glitches, but itunes tells me i have to update before restoring. My download for (4.3.1) keeps stalling with a timeout error so i cant restore. Is it possible to restore without downloading the newest firmware???. This is really p..ing me off so a reply would be much appreciated.

Just spent 6 hours trying to update my ipod touch 4g to 4.3.1 always came up as err -3259, have turned on and off antivirus/firewalls/etc to no avail. I understand that it has something to do with accessing gs.apple.com through my ports, though i cant get this to work. Is there anyway i can download the firmware without using itunes. A REPLY FROM SOMEONE AT APPLE would be much appreciated.

Have you tied the direct download given below. It says they are from the Apple site.

Thanks for the link, ill try to get the download from there. Its annoying tho because i shouldnt have to go to a third party to get the download. Apple should have clear instructions on how to solve this issue. My ipod is dead at the moment.
