My LaserWriter has worked perfectly with an older iMac OS 10.4.1 by connecting it through an Asante Talk box. I just got a new iMac OS 10.6 and know that the same connection won't work. Does anyone know of a way of getting the LaserWriter to work with OS 10.6? This printer is a sturdy, reliable workhorse and I hate to give it up. Thanks.
I just purchased a Pro and can't print. Powerbook G4 still can to my HP laserjet 6mp. I have AsanteTalk with one ethernet cable from 6mp printer. Before with the 2 PowerBook g4s (os x 10.5.8) we just switched the ethernet cable back and forth. The Pro/snow leopard can see the printer, attempts to print and gets a "network busy ..." message in printer box.
I, like others, will not give up this fantastic work horse of a printer. You say to share the printer through the Powerbook is the only way to print? What is the best way to "share"? I really don't want to leave the Powerbook on just to print ... must be a better way.
Any assistance is helpful. I like this fast MacBook Pro.
Oh - I just got the answer, if I had only read more of the postings. My problem is fixed, solved by the simple comment of get a parallel cable to USB. Snow Leopard doesn't support AppleTalk. Plugged in the cable to the printer, turned on the printer and plugged it into the MacBook Pro. Added a new printer and the HP laserjet was listed. Prints. No additional work needed.
Thanks, all, for your suggestions. I'll try the parallel cable per cpetersn, with a fall back being sharing via Appletalk on my older iMac with Asante, as per Bruce De Benedi. . .
