I updated my iPod Touch to 4.3.1. Now when I open iTunes and try to copy mp3 files to my iPod the cursor turns into a circle with a line across it indicating I cannot copy the files. I manually sync as I select a few items from my PC library. This method has worked fine for years. Only failed after 4.3.1 update. Any ideas? I have rebooted both PC and iPod several times. No joy.

    Hello Mr.E.Man,

Have you double checked to make sure the *Manually manage music and videos* option was still ticked from under your iPod's Summary tab?

Perhaps you could try converting the files to a different type such as Apple lossless to see if that makes a difference.

    Hey B-Rock

The manage manually box is still checked. Tried unloading and reloading iTunes. Again, no joy. I cannot copy any files, mp3, video, or others to the iPod since the latest OS update. I guess I will try to back it out. As 4.3 was also a lousy I guess it's back to 4.2x. Caution to all - OS 4.3.1 is a bad, bad update. Do not load!

long shot but try it anyways. run one of those problem MP3's by _*MP3 Validator*_ and see if the app reports any problems & fixes the file.

re-add the fixed file to iTunes and try to sync it to your Touch.

Thanks for the suggestion, but no joy. I cannot get any mp3 file to copy. Even files I had on the iPod before the 4.31 upgrade. Sadly Apple will address the support issue for a fee only. My iPod worked before their update, but I should pay them to resolve their issue? Arrgghhh!

I found a fix. Apple has really gotten pathetic. They have some way of checking whether your iPod cable is genuine Apple or aftermarket. If it is aftermarket, they disable your iPod/iPhone/iPad so that iTunes cannot copy files to your device and the device will not charge. The same aftermarket cable that worked fine before the 4.3.1 update will no longer work. This is not a single cable failure as I have several aftermarket cables and suddenly none work, just the original Apple cable. What complete BS.

Where did you discover this? What makes you think it's not a problem with the aftermarket cable and/or it's manufacturer?

Sorry to hear you have a bad experience with 3rd party accessories/equipment.

    Hey PlanB77,

Here's why I know the problem is Apple and NOT a problem with the aftermarket cables.
I have a total of (6) aftermarket cables. These cables support several Apple devices (iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Nano, and iPad)in different locations. All (6) of these aftermarket cables have worked just fine for many months. After the update to 4.3.1 on my iPod Touch, NONE of these cables work on my iPod Touch, but the original Apple iPod cable works fine. These aftermarket cables still work fine on my other Apple products that have not been updated.
It is beyond comprehension that all (6) aftermarket cables have failed only on my iPod Touch while working fine on all my other Apple devices. Hence my comment, Apple has become truly pathetic. They now demand your dollars for overpriced cables. As this change to the OS is without a public announcement and after I have purchased cables from other vendors I stand by my conclusion.
Oh, and Apple wants to charge for support to tell you why their OS 4.3.1 upgrade broke your product. That adds insult to injury.
