individual Finder Folder settings

How to have it so that each Finder Folder has its own format properties?

If I change one Finder Folder formatting, all the others change to the same.

I'd rather that each Finder Folder retains the last settings independent of other Finder Folder settings.

It is the same problem as in 2008 as per the forum thread: View options in Finder window

Is there an updated solution?

As was mentioned in the other thread, you can do this but it is not automatic. For each folder you want to "customize," open its Finder window, select the view you want, then type command-J and click the box at the top for "Always open in xxx view". That command refers to "this folder", not "all folders".

Folders that have not been customized by checking the "Always open in xxx view" box will by default open in the same view that was in effect for the previously opened folder. So after customizing a folder in one view, if you want all the other folders to open in another view, just open one of the other folders. It will first open in the view you used for the custom folder, since this was also the "previous folder". But if you now reset the view for the current non-custom folder it will become the new default for the all the other non-custom folders. This default will change if you change a folder view in the future, but the customized folder will remember its individual setting.
