There is Remote Desktop software for the iPad that supports some specific mice on the iPad:
From Re: Mouse support for iPad pro
For passthru to a pc, you can use a MOUSE with the right app and right mouse!
Read Multiform post. You can use a mouse with remote Windows and vnc desktop apps on the ipad. You need the right app store app.

The whole idea behind the touch interface is to eliminate the need for a mouse, instead using taps and gestures to do that kind of thing, so I'm not surprised that Apple has taken the route of not using a mouse. The mouse works in Android and BlackBerry PlayBookOS because they are both linux-based (Android and QNX) so its easy to implement. I'm not sure what iOS is based on (a stripped down BSD kernel like OSX or something else built from the ground up).

Can I use Apple's wireless mouse on the Ipad 2? I have connected my wireless bluetooth keyboard to my Ipad. I am not too sure whether Apple's wireless mouse can also be connected to the Ipad 2 as this will empower me to use the Ipad as a mini laptop.

There is a cursor when typing in emails, notes, documents, search bars, address bars, replies to this forum, etc.

Meg, I think we're arguing over semantics here! Cursor/insertion point - call it what you want. It's still the same thing in documents, etc.
I wasn't trying to say that mouse control would be a good thing. Why anyone would want to use a mouse on the iPad is beyond me, but each to his own, I guess.
i have Jump Desktop remote installed on my ipad that lets me connect to my PC remotely. i can work on Powerpoint presentations using my ipad. Jump presents a cursor on the ipad that can be moved around by normal touch o the ipad and the corsponding cursor on the PC moves. i think it makes a lot of sense to have (wireless) mouse support for the ipad. i can leave my PC at home and carry my ipad to work.

And you would use the mouse to move what cursor?
LOL.... as soon as I read the title of this thread that's exactly what I was thinking.
Don't worry Edoru, I'm sure someone will come out with an app that adds a cursor, even if it's not needed đ
It's not really about a cursor for me. But we recently added citrix mirroring of our hospital electronic record on the iPad. It's nearly impossible to select what you want to just using your finger. You can by zooming, but then you are constantly zooming in and out. Battery life on a laptop is insufficient for all day. I'd like a mouse.
I have been looking for a mouse for the iPad, too. We use an EMR software at work that is Windows based and it would be nice to use the mouse to do some functions- like open a panel inside of a person's chart so you could read all of the contents. Some of the arrows are so small that the touch screen doesn't register when I try to press a directional arrow (when trying to scroll down or up).

There are activities that require a mouse to function properly... some games, some photo editing apps, some other processing types of things... a mouse (or an equivilent function) is absolutely required... so the ipad is useless in these environments.
