Wireless mouse for Ipad

Can I use Apple's wireless mouse on the Ipad 2? I have connected my wireless bluetooth keyboard to my Ipad. I am not too sure whether Apple's wireless mouse can also be connected to the Ipad 2 as this will empower me to use the Ipad as a mini laptop.

There is Remote Desktop software for the iPad that supports some specific mice on the iPad:

For passthru to a pc, you can use a MOUSE with the right app and right mouse!

Read Multiform post. You can use a mouse with remote Windows and vnc desktop apps on the ipad. You need the right app store app.

The whole idea behind the touch interface is to eliminate the need for a mouse, instead using taps and gestures to do that kind of thing, so I'm not surprised that Apple has taken the route of not using a mouse. The mouse works in Android and BlackBerry PlayBookOS because they are both linux-based (Android and QNX) so its easy to implement. I'm not sure what iOS is based on (a stripped down BSD kernel like OSX or something else built from the ground up).

There is a cursor when typing in emails, notes, documents, search bars, address bars, replies to this forum, etc.

If you want to get technical, I believe that's an insertion point not a cursor. 😉 You can use the mouse to move the cursor to set the insertion point on a computer. On the iPad, you use your finger. To see the difference, if you're typing a reply to this forum on a computer, there is the insertion point just to the right of where your're typing which is the same as on the iPad, however, there is also a cursor which could be anywhere on the screen.

Meg, I think we're arguing over semantics here! Cursor/insertion point - call it what you want. It's still the same thing in documents, etc.
I wasn't trying to say that mouse control would be a good thing. Why anyone would want to use a mouse on the iPad is beyond me, but each to his own, I guess.

It's not entirely semantics. The point is +there is no cursor+ for the mouse to control, even in text entry. There is an insertion point but, it's not the same thing. Most folks probably aren't going to see why the difference matters. What they want is to be able to control the insertion point with a mouse. Which is beyond me as well. 😉

i have Jump Desktop remote installed on my ipad that lets me connect to my PC remotely. i can work on Powerpoint presentations using my ipad. Jump presents a cursor on the ipad that can be moved around by normal touch o the ipad and the corsponding cursor on the PC moves. i think it makes a lot of sense to have (wireless) mouse support for the ipad. i can leave my PC at home and carry my ipad to work.

I have been looking for a mouse for the iPad, too. We use an EMR software at work that is Windows based and it would be nice to use the mouse to do some functions- like open a panel inside of a person's chart so you could read all of the contents. Some of the arrows are so small that the touch screen doesn't register when I try to press a directional arrow (when trying to scroll down or up).
