Anyone else got one of these and experiencing severe problems?

For me if I connect it the iPad seems to assume that audio should be going out via the dock, not in. This is a real problem as the jam has of course no output, effectively rendering it useless, what's wrose is no input comes in either. so not only does the iPad not playback anything via any inbuilt speaker or headphone socket, but I can't record anything via the Jam.

Does anyone know of a solution, has anyone experienced this? is it just a lemon?

Mac Pro Octacore, Mac OS X (10.5.2), Apogee Ensemble

    Wow... I certainly hope not...!
I ordered one from apple to use with my iPod touch 4th gen.

It won't even ship till the 19th. Keep us posted!

Yes, not good. In fact after a few minutes of being plugged in (and not working) it looks like the iPad2 decides that it's not even there anymore and just disables it completely. I hope I don't have to mail the **** thing back to apple but can take it into a store to have it exchanged/fixed cos it's obviously a lemon :/

Per - where'd you get one? If I can find one to purchase and actually right away, I'll pay the $99 and get it here and test it right away.

I can't find any place where they're available.

I ordered from the online Apple store.

Right now I'm in the process of returning it. I'm amazed at how archaic and unprofessional Apple customer support is. Unlike Dell they can't simply send out one with a label and have you return what you've got in the box. You can't even return to an Apple store, you have to send it via mail. They wont make the effort to contact FedEX for you and arrange a pickup, it's like the worst customer service experience I've had from a company in years, even Adobe and Microsoft do better.

Maybe you should contact Apogee. Apple just drop ships most of the non-apple products. This is how most online electronics store work.

Yeah, I must say, that's the exact opposite of every CS experience I've had with Apple in the past 15 years. Never even a shred of an issue.

I like the contacting Apogee suggestion.

What I don't understand is when they were available from the online Apple store, maybe I missed the day they were up there or something but it's said "weeks" under ship time every time I've looked.

    GL.

You might want to reconsider that order: Apogee has confirmed that Jam doesn't currently work on the iPod Touch 4G.

Yet Apple state that it does on the Apogee Jam page of the Apple Store site:

    "*Apogee JAM Guitar Input*

+With Apogee's JAM, you can plug your guitar directly into your iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, or Mac and experience studio quality sound with incredible ease of use. Now it's easier than ever to record, practice, or jam anywhere."+

What's the truth? Anyone actually try it?

I ordered it the day the iPad 2 came out.

I received my jam last Saturday, and it sounds wonderful. I have noticed that the jam is very sensitive to having the cords connected correctly. I have not experienced your issue. I have my Ibanez RG 1550 directly into jam input, and then the iPad connector cable connected to output, into 30 pin Input, Dr Dre Studio Beats connected to headphone output. Make sure to select YES for monitoring, and keep noise suppressor low enough to allow consistent levels. Sounds wonderful. I'm not really sure about your description of output trying to go to Jam.how did you determine this?

I had an issue when I did not have cable fully connected to jam and the sound from the iPads built in mic was coming through. I also had an issue after using jam with my imac. It worked very well with iMac, was really impressed. However, when I then attempted to use with iPad again, it wasn't recognized. After many reconfigurations it was recognized, and I assume it was again a problem with the cable.

I love it and recommend for anybody who is looking for quality recordings. Just make sure cable is accurately connected. Btw, I did send a support request to Apogee Sunday, received confirmation that it was received, but as of Wednesday have not received a response to my issue.

In regards to availability, I ordered my first Jam March 4th, from Apple Store $89.99, it shipped March 30th by DHL, received it April 2. I ordered an additional jam , (a gift for a relative) March 6th, after price increase to $99.99, it hasn't arrived yet but was shipped April 4th.

A clerk at the Apple Store in Fair Oaks Virginia, says they have units in Stock. They also receive several IPad 2's almost everyday although the Online store shows a 2-3 week delay.

I suggest trying your nearest Apple store if you are interested. Enjoy !

What IS up with that? I ordered mine on the 22nd of March and it's going to ship on the 25th?

It might turn out to be fortuitous in the long run, as I've been speaking with tech support at Apogee (NOT "Customer service") in order to determine if the Jam does or does not work with the iPod 4th gen. The "gut" feeling by them is that it has the same processor and OS as the iPhone and it should work or barring that it will evolve to be compatible. They are awaiting an answer from apple about this, too.

Does anyone on this list have access to a new (4th gen) iPod to test their Jam interface?

Here is a free and compatible recording app to use for testing (though it might need some experimentation to get working.. I found I needed to unplug and then replug my headphones to get the audio to play through them rather than the internal speaker:

Yes, the jam works with the latest gen iPod TOUCH. I have used it with the Peterson istrobe, pocket amp, and amp kit.

As this particular discussion is about GarageBand on iPad I feel I need to verify that IOS GarageBand is not supported on iPhone or iPod touch,...I am sure no one was meaning that,.. But didn't want to give the wrong impression.
