Imac is running so so so so slow,

Hi I'm new to this, if anyone can help me that would be so appreciated,
Ok my Imac 24 is heading up to 4 years, has worked well up till 6 months ago, I'm mainly using PS, and really just the basics, mail, safari etc.
About 6 months ago I began to get the "Grey screen of death" every so often, then more frequently,
I have run disk repair from the start up disk and that seemed to make the crashing less frequent.

But now, the computer is running so slowly, starting up takes 10 minutes then take s another 10 minutes to open any application,
I am continually getting these 2 messages in the console system log (here is a copy of about 1% of it.

How much memory do you have on your Mac?

I had a similar issue, thinking perhaps it was OS 10.6, my mac is only 2 years old, but then I upgraded from 2 to 8 Gigs of memory. It really helped a lot in having many apps open at same time and the speed at which it loads now too. Maybe bad ram?

Ram is real cheap, got 8 gigs for my model for 100 bux (crucial.com) and put it in myself, if you don't know how to upgrade it, just go to youtube and search it, took 3 minutes.

Looking around, it seems to indicate the Hard Drive fan. But with the slowness you are reporting, it might also be a dying hard drive. Get iStat Pro to see temps and fan speeds.

Might try an SMC Reset. Shutdown, unplug the computer, wait ten minutes, then press and hold the power button in for a good five seconds, then connect to power and restart.

Looking at this topic;
http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11140223
It appears that the error is with the Hard Disk. Or maybe just the fan as WZZZ writes.

However assume it is the HD and if you haven't already, _back up your data in case the HD fails_. Backing up to an external drive is the traditional method.
A correctly formatted external drive and a copy of SuperDuper is a fairly sound arrangement. Other methods are also possible.

Give an Apple store/reseller a ring tomorrow to get a quote on a HD replacement, to give you some idea of the cost.
