Have to click twice for mouse to do anything

Hello,
Ok, so my problem is with my mouse, whether I am using the trackpad or a bluetooth logitech mouse. Whenever i click on anything, it could be an icon, a link in a browser, selecting a tab or closing it..., i have to click on these things twice. The first time I click them nothing happens, i have to click a second time for it to work.
This has happened to me multiple times even after I did a restart, but i dont know what causes it because sometimes they work from the first click.
I think i started experiencing this problem after the 10.6.7 update.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Are you sure, the window is active at the moment your clicking (x - + in the upper left corner are colored)? Maybe it becomes inactive before you click?

yup the window is active, but thats not the only problem, i have to click almost everything twice for the computer to register a click and that includes links or if i want to focus on a window in the background i have to click twice on it. If i am on a website say youtube and i want to watch a video, i have to click twice for the video to open.

Hi, I'm also experiencing this problem since updating to 10.6.7. In fact, I had to click "Reply" twice just to post this!

Restarting seems to fix it.

Really annoying!

Hey,

the same here!

It happens like 70% of the time, while using the computer and with all the apps.
You click, nothing is happening (stuck) and after clicking twice .. or three times, it works again..

Any suggestions?

It appears to me that the batteries of the mouse are not snugly fitted. I sometimes just half-turn-over the mouse and then click and it works every time I do so. But then of course it still means clicking twice. I shall look into it to see if I can fix it with a tiny (and I do mean tiny) bit of scotch tape. I have had my computer only for the past three days and I am just at this time getting acquainted with it. PS. I am no computer technician.

Hi,

Nothing to do with the batteries for me - it happens with the built-in trackpad and also an attached USB mouse at the same time. If I unplug the mouse it persists with the trackpad. It's definitely an OS thing and only since the most recent update.

Same problem here. It happens when i use touchpad and when i use my usb mouse. It started after i upgraded my RAM and updated to 10.6.7. Any solution?

Since two weeks or so i have a similar problem with my external logitech mouse.

After 2 hours work on my iMac running 10.6.8 some mouse clicks are ignored so that i have to click twice.

Thats especially nerves in a first person shooter :/

I'm thinking about switching to gentoo.

Maybe it's just a coincidence. My syslog said:

VLC[2387]: Media key event tap was disabled by timeout

during such a twice click problem.

Until now I could not reproduce the problem after quitting VLC.

Glad I came across this discussion. I'm having exactly the same behavior with the mouse clicks. SOmetimes a click works, other times I have to click twice. This happened recently so it must be something with the last upgrade.

Even after upgrading to Lion this issue didn't go away. Hade to format my hard drive and make a clean installation of Lion. And only after fresh installation i got rid of this bug.

Same problem here, thought that upgrading to Lion would solve it but no.

Also, I've noticed that it happen after the macbook wakes up. Restarting or logging out solves the issue, but then at some other sleep in the future it would happen again.

UPDATE:

Actually I noticed this message in the console:

8/10/11 10:47:22.223 PM Spotify: Media key event tap was disabled by timeout

So I closed spotify and it worked...
