Have to click twice for mouse to do anything

Hello,
Ok, so my problem is with my mouse, whether I am using the trackpad or a bluetooth logitech mouse. Whenever i click on anything, it could be an icon, a link in a browser, selecting a tab or closing it..., i have to click on these things twice. The first time I click them nothing happens, i have to click a second time for it to work.
This has happened to me multiple times even after I did a restart, but i dont know what causes it because sometimes they work from the first click.
I think i started experiencing this problem after the 10.6.7 update.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

There is a nice person buried underneath your first post. Nice to hear from you. You seem polite.

Since the iMac 5K is less than one year old, there can't be any posts about it that are over one year old. This thread, where you are posting this, isn't about hardware, but is about the OS X operating system, which is 16 years old. If it applies to your current problem with OS X, then you may benefit from it.

yup the window is active, but thats not the only problem, i have to click almost everything twice for the computer to register a click and that includes links or if i want to focus on a window in the background i have to click twice on it. If i am on a website say youtube and i want to watch a video, i have to click twice for the video to open.

It appears to me that the batteries of the mouse are not snugly fitted. I sometimes just half-turn-over the mouse and then click and it works every time I do so. But then of course it still means clicking twice. I shall look into it to see if I can fix it with a tiny (and I do mean tiny) bit of scotch tape. I have had my computer only for the past three days and I am just at this time getting acquainted with it. PS. I am no computer technician.

Same problem here, thought that upgrading to Lion would solve it but no.

Also, I've noticed that it happen after the macbook wakes up. Restarting or logging out solves the issue, but then at some other sleep in the future it would happen again.

UPDATE:

Actually I noticed this message in the console:

8/10/11 10:47:22.223 PM Spotify: Media key event tap was disabled by timeout

So I closed spotify and it worked...

ugh.. this is killing me.. I've had this issue since cloning my system across to my new MBP using superduper last week. the old lappie had issues, but this was not one of them!

restart has not helped, and i plan to do a clean install when i have time.

I experience the problem in Finder, Firefox, Journler... pretty much everything, really.. its almost like I need to give a button focus before it will accept a click, but that can apply to two link next to eachother on the same page!

Also, I've found that there is some kind of intermittent persistent-mouse-down behaviour happening, which i've seen in photoshop, keynote and finder, i believe. As an example, I could single-click a file in finder and move the mouse away, resulting in a selection box being drawn. If I Cmd-Tab to another app, i may not be able to use that app until i go back to the offending click-stealer (eg finder) and give it a firm click to trigger a mouse-up... this is my interpretation of whats going on.. not based on any technical background... I haven't had time to really document this bug, sorry.

I'm running 10.6.8 on a 2011 MBP i7 2.2g. This occurs for my trackpad, magic mouse and hp-laser-usb-mouse.

After examining my logs I’m seeing many references to FFhelper, and I realise that I installed Function Flip recently: http://kevingessner.com/software/functionflip/

It seems to work most of the time, but fails sometimes.. then it tells me its running, I stop the service, then restart it and it functions again.

I’ll be switching it off for a while.

Update: much improved performance with FunctionFlip switched off...

I’m also a longtime user of Better Touch tool and Launchbar, which have never caused a problem.

these messages occur most regularly for firefox and thunderbird.
