Skype and Camera

Is it possible to connect a camera to the Power Mac G4 MDD to use it with SKYPE?

Yes, so long as all Skype and camera requirements are met.

The PowerMac MDD has USB1 and not USB2, I don't know if that may be a problem. It also depend on how good you may want and can look on Skype depending on your internet connection out.

My experience with an iBook is that the two alternatives I've tried, a Sony DV-camera with USB out and a basic Microsoft USB webcam, worked as soon as connected. Neither were told as being compatible with Macs in the Owners Manual.

So unless you've got special needs try borrowing one from someone to test.

Well suddenly I wanted to know if the Sony miniDV camera could be used with firewire also, and yes no problem it's instantly recognised in Skype.

I also tested the USB connection again on the Sony camera and it's USB1, the Microsoft webcam uses USB2, but the conclusion is that unless you've got ambitions of looking good USB1 is enough.

I expect that most videocameras (DV or Video8) with digital out, USB or more likely DV/i-LINK/FireWire will work with Skype. At least it's worth a try.
