I want to buy an iPod touch 64 GB w/ facetime. How many songs will it hold?

My husband wants to transfer some music from Cd's to my future iPod touch. About how much music will it hold?

iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 duo, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 4 GB 1067 MHz RAM

The answer is "it depends"; it depends on how you import the CDs and what else you might put on the iPod. A song imported at 256 kbps AAC, which is the format used in the iTunes Store, takes up about 8.2 megabytes for a four minute song. The 64GB iPod touch has an actual usable capacity of about 59.4 gigabytes, so you can do the math from there.

Importing the CDs at a higher or lower bit rate (bit rate directly relates to quality; the higher the bit rate, all other things being equal, the higher the quality of the track) will reduce or increase the number of tracks you could put in your iPod. And of course the more apps, movies, videos, photos etc. you put in your iPod, the fewer songs you can put on it.

Regards.

Maybe a slightly more practical answer: I have a 64GB iPod Touch. I have about 2000 songs that take up about 11GB. I also have apps and video that come and go and take up about 5-10GB. Loads of space for currently about 180-200 LPs and CDs with many more to come. Some of my music is at low compression rates, some is at higher.

So -- give or take -- I could hold maybe 8000 songs. So maybe 600-800 LPs?
