Site Not Showing Changes

No matter what I do, whenever I make changes on my site and then publish- the changes are not made online.

What is going on? I've gone so far as to completely recreate an entire page and it still isn't working!

My site is www.annarborgraduations.com - I had to change the front page, because on some browsers the contest entry form doesn't show up properly.

A couple of data points. If I publish to a local directory, and then view that site in a web browser, it updates every time (even without clearing cache). If I publish to MobileMe and view that in a browser, it updates every time (even without clearing cache). I have also copied the files from the local directory to my ftp server using another ftp tool than the one built into iWeb. The changes don't show in the browser (Safari or Firefox) even after clearing the cache. I can even look at the files on the server and see that they are the right ones (stroke png files contain the right color) but those files are not being displayed.

I have done other sites and made slight changes and the changes have propagated (without clearing cache), but that was in a previous version of iWeb.

Nope, that doesn't do it for me. I'm having the same problem, e.g. changing text box fill color or image border color and those changes don't propagate to the published site. For one thing, a reload should bring in the changes. But even emptying the cache doesn't work--it still shows the old version of the site! I've tried some tips from another post of deleting my Library iWeb plist and cache and rebooting, then republishing. Still no joy! This is very frustrating. I don't want to have to delete every object just to change a color feature!

This is not an iWeb problem - once you publish a site, the code is created, so nothing to do with iWeb now really.

The fact that the changes show up when you publish to MobileMe and a local folder mean that is has to be a problem with your host/server.

What kind of hosting package do you have? Windows or Linux? Always better to go with Linux for iWeb built sites.

Contact your hosting service, as it is likely to be a problem at their end, especially if it works at local folder level and when publishing to MobileMe.

One other thing to consider is the use of web safe fonts. If it is text that looks funky and you're using something non-ubiquitous this might be the reason.

One last thing to try is to make iWeb turn whatever it is that's weird into a png by adding a shadow to the text or image-- and then you can dial the parameters down to "zero."

It does seem like it may be a web-host issue at this point, although all of my experience has shown that I can usually outwit the servers somehow.

Hey may I ask what your resolution to this was? Im having the same issue. When I publish changes to my site I can see that all of the files update in my local folder but the site online doesn't change a bit. I have a feeling it has something to do with hosting. I recently signed up with no-ip, and as soon as I did, I checked to see that the site worked. It worked great, but now that Im trying to change things on pages Im seeing that its not updating.

Thanks

Publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and check it locally with your browser. If all is well with that version then the problem lies with the uploading of the files to the server.

Try clearing your browsers cache again (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reload the website. If that doesn't show the changes then you'll need to use the File ➙ Publish Entire Site menu option to try to get all of the files uploaded correctly.

So we're all on the same page what system version and iWeb version are you using?

Old Toad, I really appreciate your response. First off, Im running OSX 10.8.4 with iWeb version 3.0.4. I tried the cache clearing tip which didnt help unfortunately. My site is already published to a local folder, it always has been. And it works fine in any browser. But when I make a change and choose File ➙ Publish Entire Site nothing changes. The files in my local folder the site is being published to update but the resulting site in my browser does not.

Sorry if I'm missing somehting obvious, I'm defintiely not web savy. It has always worked in the past and its frustrating because the site does show in a browser. But I cant get it to register the changes now for some reason.

One thing that might be a factor is that I signed up with no-ip. My ISP wont provide me a ststic IP so I made a free acount with noip.com. I didnt think that would affect anything. And it doesnt seem like it is since the site runs fine.

Thanks again for any insight you can provide.

Okay, so it sounds as though your site is not published. Publishing your site to a local folder on your Mac is not publishing your site.

For your site to be seen, you need to publish your site to a web host/server and this is how all websites are meant to be viewed.

You need to sign up with a web host and get a domain name and register this and then upload your site there- you can go and look at GoDaddy or HostExcellence or do a search for any other web hosting service, but websites are meant to be hosted and it sounds as though yours is not, which probably accounts for the problems that you are having.

Answer this :

Where do you publish your website?

What is the address of your website?

If you use No-Ip then you have webhosting elsewhere, since No-Ip only offer domainnames. more specific, Dynamic DNS.

Or do you want to use your computer as a webserver and use no-ip to point to that machine?

Nothing wrong with it, I do it too.

But you have to publish to the folder the webserver uses to serve from and you have to configure your router to forward to your machine.

But that is not an iWeb issue.

No, because if you publish from iWeb to a local folder you will get the html and css files published to your Mac and when you then open your site folder and double click on one of the html pages, Safari or your chosen browser will then open it because it is an html page, but this does not mean that your website is actually hosted correctly.

Okay, so post the url to your website - what is it? This will be your domain name and should look similar to this - http://www.everwebapp.com.

That is what a website published to a host will look like.

In response to all of you guys. And seriously, thank you for your help.

I have "local folder" selected for publishing in iWeb. That folder is located in my user home folder.

I use my mac mini server as the webhost and have no-ip point to it. I did that because Time Warner wont give me a static IP.

Here is the URL to my homepage:

http://audio.no-ip.biz/Home.html

The "audio.no-ip.biz" is the free domain I got from no-ip.

If this link works for you guys then it's safe to assume that everything is set up properly correct? And if that's the case, I have no idea why my changes within iWeb don't reflect on the web.

Thanks again.
