is there a way to unlock it???
No, there is no official way. Neither AT&T or Verizon will unlock an iPhone for anyone for any reason.
The good news is you are allowed to unlock the phone (at least in the USA). But you'd have to rely on, say, a Google search, or spend a few bucks.
I wonder if Verizon will unlock their iPhones...

Even if Verizon were to agree to unlock at some point(they do not at present), it's really impractical to Unlock CDMA cell Phones. Most CDMA providers simply won't permit a CDMA phone on their network unless they sold it to you.
But I think VZ and Sprint use different 3G bands anyways.
I was told by Verizon that they will unlock the iPhone 4s. You can only have it done once a year. I assume, to keep people from getting into the selling unlocked phone business.
The catch is that you can only unlock the phone with a global GSM sim card. That means you have to travel over seas out of the CDMA network to do it. BUT, supposedly, when you get back it will still be unlocked, so you can use a T-mobile or straight talk sim card.
Just call them and have them activate the international calling feature and then ask them to put in a unlock request.
That is what I have done. I am traveling to the UK next week. I will try to remember come back here and let you know if it works.
Oops I forgot one thing. You have to be Verizon customer for a certain amount of time. Not a brand new customer. I can't remember what the limit is but I think it may have been 6 months. I have been with them for 15 years, so it was no issue.
Did you happen to notice the dates on the other posts in this thread? And OP in any case was asking about an iPhone 4, not an iPhone 4S which didn't even exist when this thread was active.
AT&T will unlock this if your off contract. Since it is a iPhone4 you could be.
Again, this thread is well over a year old. The OP's issue is almost certainly long solved or abandoned,
I will try to be more polite this time even though I found that being treated as unintelligent to not be very polite, either.
Yes, I saw the dates on the thread. However, I came across this thread looking for answers to the same question. After I found some information elsewhere, I came back here to possibly help others in the future who may come looking just like I did.
Do you see how that works?
Thank you for time and have a beautiful day.
Yes, I "see how that works". But again, the original poster was asking about an iPhone 4, not an iPhone 4S. and there was no indication that the OP was using Verizon. Posting information about a different product/service just tends to confuse the issue.
'nuff said. It was not my intention to start an argument.
Regards.

No, the Verizon iPhone will not work on any GSM network in the U.S.. The unlock is for traveling outside of the U.S. only.
