Cannot "disable remote control infrared receiver"

Hi,

I just got a fancy new Sandybridge MacBook Pro 13" and instantly updated it to 10.6.7.
Now I found a very annoying bug. I use a Harmony One remote control at home, due to that I awlays switch of the infrared remote control receiver when I am at home. This does not seem to work anymore, it just always responds.

The problem is not with the Harmony One, the MacBook Pro responds to any remote, no matter whether the box to disable the control is ticked or not.

This really bothers me a lot...anyone having similar problems? Or even better - a solution?

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks Sandman!!!! The problem was indeed Candelair prefpanel.

If anyone has it, you can find the website here: http://www.iospirit.com/labs/candelair/ and download an update, and use the panel in System Prefs to enable/disable your remote control.

Indeed, it has many advantages over Apple's IR RC driver. The only problem is remembering you have it installed and that it's called "Candelair" 😉

My problem is solved anyway.

Oh THANK YOU!!! I've been having this same problem for months now, and have been baffled by it. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with AppleCare, and the senior technician that my call got bumped to concluded it must be a hardware problem and volunteered to make me an appointment at my local Apple Store for a repair eval. But you identified the root cause and the solution: Candleair! I honestly cannot even remember why I have Candleair installed, but I do, and that is the cause of the problem. Disabling IR in the Candleair preferences pane completely solves the problem!

Thank you a TON! If I could aware you more points, or send you bitcoins, I would! 🙂

Chris

Sorry Jeff. That doesn't work. This came to light as I visiting at my son's house and everytime he did something on his Apple TV, my MB Pro would start playing a random song from iTunes. If iTunes wasn't open on my computer, it would start the software then play the song.

This is a problem that Apple needs to address. There are several things that have fallen through the cracks on the updates and this is just the latest one.

For the record, I don't have candelair (I don't even know what it is), I don't have any sort of helper buddy (or whatever it is called) I have never allowed remotes to control my MB Pro (it has always been disabled and still is) but it makes no difference. My son's Apple TV3 remote control still is making my MB Pro play music whenever he is doing something.

Another failure (and off topic here but another related failure to address) is the Apple Mouse no longer responding to secondary click (usually right click).
