Q: Screen Mirroring with HDMI Question

I just got the digital av adapter to mirror the screen onto a 42" HDTV. I understand that because of the different ratios of the tv and ipad that it will not take the whole screen on the tv, but when in horizontal mode there are black bars on all 4 sides! Pictures on apple's own website show it just having bars on side. Is there a way to fix this? My tv only has 4:3 and 16:9 options, even the zoom settings are greyed out.

    AvPlayerHD manages to fill the screen edge to edge!! I don't really know what it does and I suspect there definitely is some quality drop, but I can live with it!!! It is really cool :)

    I'm an iOS developer and ran into this same problem implementing a dual screen app. I think there are two solutions to this problem, one for the developer, one for the user.

    Developers can solve it by setting a property on their external screen:

    externalScreen.overscanCompensation = UIScreenOverscanCompensationInsetBounds | UIScreenOverscanCompensationInsetApplicationFrame;

    If you have the borders with AirPlay Mirroring but not with your dual screen app, it's because the developer implemented it this way.

    Everyone else should try change a setting on their Apple TV:

    Settings > Audio & Video > Adjust For AirPlay Overscan

    This setting is On by default. Try setting it Off.

    This solved it for me, also for AirPlay Mirroring. No more black borders! Let me know if this solves it for you...

    Hello, testing the hdmi adapter I noticed that in iPhone 5 works better than with the new ipad retina display. Iphone has much better FPS.

    Any idea why can this be happening? Could be a miss configuration in my ipad?

    Best regards,

    this DID work on iOS5, and for that reason, I did not upgrade to iOS6, or iOS7.

    The latest update for iPhone iOS7 did work full screen on TV via digital HDMI connector, so I updated the iPad from iOS5 to latest iOS7.

    BAD MISTAKE. latest iOS7 on iPad not does not fill the full screen, and cannot roll back to IOS5
