zoom h1 portable audio recorder + ipad ?

hi,

i have this portable audio recorder. ( http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/h1/ ) and my aim is to do some field recording and use it in ipad music production apps.
i tried to do it via headphone output (as far as i know it's also a line input) and also via camera connection kit (zoom h1 has a usb port).
none of them worked.
this is a very simple feature and also very crucial for musicians who want to use ipad as a mobile daw.
is there a way to do live recording with ipad and zoom h1 or record the sound with h1 first and then transfer it to ipad without using and pc?
if there is no way, i hope apple come up with a solution.
i know that ipad has a built in mic, but for musicians it is very important to get a better sound which can be achieved with a pro recorder.

There was some discussion about using an older H4 with an iMic and the camera connection kit.

I'm a newbie with the recording aspects but I too am looking at field recording possibilities.

H1 version 2.0 firmware now allows the H1 to be used as a USB mic. This should let you use it as you were intending (although you may need a powered USB hub in between the H1 and the camera connection kit if you get power error message). Let us know if you get it working. I'm curious about this type of setup as well.

Hi,

Just thought i'd chime in. I am using the Zoom H1 with version 2.0 firmware and it works fine with iPad 2, camera bconnectino kit, and a powered USB hub. Got it working perfectly with DAW app, monitoring all works fine for multitracking :-)

Yeah it works that way but the OP talked about field recording so he would need to look at a solar battery/standard battery that meets the specs of the adapter for his powered usb hub??? Getting confusing. The original post is confusing because the H1 is a recorder that records files to SD card. Why would he need the ipad to do field recordings. He can easily transfer the files from the H1 to his computer and upload them to his ipad.

I had the same problem and found a solution. Basically the ipad camera connection kit cannot see audio files. But the AirStash SD card reader has an app that does. I made a quick video with the details.

I can do field recordings with the H1 and import them into the iPad without Internet or a computer.

OK u guys. I'm going to make a podcast using my ipad only. So here's my workflow.

It's no more than 35euro.

Now this is a portable USB/SD/hard drive reader for the ipad that transfers over wifi. It transfers Wav and mp3 like a charm and streams media from USB etc.

the app I'm gone use is twisted wave for editing. I think it's the best for ipad.

For recording live u can attach the mike with cable and record with out the need for the the easy acc.

Thn u can use HD recorder for example. But it's safer to record on the SD card and transfer I think.

Running iOS 7, I was able to connect my Zoom H1 directly to my iPhone using a camera connection kit and powered USB hub (without power). This solution is completely portable and should work just as well on an iPad.
