Sony DCR-VX1000

This is Sony's early version of MiniDV, w/ 4pin firewire in/out... Three things are happening on capture: a) VTR will operate, but no picture will come up; b) picture will come up, but no sound; c) lots of dropped frames. I'm using an Apple firewire cable. Any help?

I'm on an iMac 20" display, latest Apple OS, 1 gig of RAM (two 512 chips), the latest FCE for OS-10. Not only am I having trouble with the capture, but also with dropped frames on footage previously captured as well, and also on the Canvas playback. However, I'm a novice both to NLE and to the Mac platform. My previous editing experience was all linear, tape to tape.

Thanks for the willingness to help.

Start by trashing you preferences. Disconnect all devices from the computer except the keyboard and mouse. Connect the camera to computer in VCR mode. Launch the application. Pick your settings. I think the VX1000 was one of those cameras that only shoots in 12-bit 32K audio, so make sure you use the right settings. Does the application see the camera? When you open the capture window can you control the camera? Can you capture? What happens when you try to capture?

Try this
1. Make sure easy set up is for correct system PAL or NTSC
2. Start up the computer
3. Turn on the camera
4. Open Final Cut
5. Open capture window

This is the only way my Sony VX2100 will work, if I turn on the camera before I start the computer, the capture window will say VTR OK but the camera will not work.
