Weird constant keychain lock sound?

I started having this problem yesterday on my MacBook Pro, but it only seems to be happening when my screen saver (Computer Name) is on.

I am running 10.6.7, but upgraded a week ago and didn't start having the problem until yesterday.

I also started having this exact same problem yesterday (April 4th) when the screensaver engages. I also hear the sound when shutting down (after all applications have shut, but the desktop background is still visible).

I too, upgraded to 10.6.7 the date of the release, but didn't see this symptom until yesterday. Nothing in the logs, no strange processes running, very strange...

My wife's Macbook 13" is also running 10.6.7 but is not exhibiting the symptoms...

Same issue here.

I updated on the release day of 10.6.7 and no issues at all.

Yesterday it started making the keychain noise. It only seems to do it after I leave my mac alone for a while. I have not heard it while I am actually using the computer.

I too am having this exact same problem... hoping this gets resolved ASAP!

I have the same problem. I hear the "lock sound" when the screensaver starts and then it plays more often when the screensaver is displayed. Also when I shut down my Mac, like @other_ape.

Small update. Even with the ScreenSaver set to never enable, once the display power saving kicks in, the locking sound occurs also.

I'm not sure of the cause or solution, but since I replied yesterday, the problem seems to have gone away.

Prior to making the posting when I first heard the sounds I noticed that I had left 1Password (although locked) and Keychain Access running and thought that might have something do to with it. So i quit them, but still had the noises after the screensaver came on. I even rebooted and still had the problem. I'd hear the sound when the screensaver first came on and then periodically after that.

After posting yesterday, I checked settings in System Preferences and Keychain Access that might have to do with keychain locking and unlocking. I didn't see anything unusual and I'm pretty sure that I didn't change anything, but since that time I haven't been hearing the sound. I've even left 1Password and Keychain Access running and the problem hasn't reoccurred.

I don't know if System Preferences or Keychain Access changed something behind the scenes, but it might be worth a try.

+1, 1Password Beta 10 and I’m having the same problems. The only thing I can do right now is to turn the sound off.

Hello folks,

As caryblack mentioned, this is a known issue in 1Password 3.6.0.BETA-10 and we are working on a fix as quickly as we can.

However, for now (and to avoid having the 1Password unlock sound become a thing of terror) the best thing to do is to manually download the latest stable version (3.5.9) from http://agilewebsolutions.com/downloads and then reinstall. Make sure you quit any browsers and drag the current version of 1Password to the trash before installing the newly downloaded version. This won't harm any of your 1Password data as it's stored in a separate file which doesn't get touched by a reinstall.
