LiveType will not render in FCP

Question

LiveType will not render in FCP

I have been using LiveType with Final Cut Pro for 3 years with no problem. Now when I try to render the Live Type file in FCP and the message I get is "File Error:Access Denied". I have trashed my Live Type .plist in Preferences and that did not help.

Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 2x 2.55 GHz, Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Sounds like it might be a permissions thing. From your finder, go to the folder where the livetype files are stored... select it and hit command-i, way at the bottom, what does at say as to the owner? Is it your user name? if the folder is fine, check the actual livetype file with command-i.

I Checked permissions on both the Live Type App and also the Live Type file and found that I did indeed have permission to read and write the files.

Hi Christina I forgot to mention that this permissions OK did not solve my problem. I reinstalled Live Type but that did not solve the render problem.
Still getting — "File Error: Access Denied"
The problem must be in FCP somewhere.

is this correct that you have osx 10.2?? what version of live type and fcp do you have?

There's no way he can be on 10.2 if he's using a Mac Pro.

Still, your question about the FCS/LiveType version is valid.

George, you are trying to render the .ipr project file from LiveType, right?

re Livetype "File Error:Access Denied". I am running Mac Pro Dual-Core Intel Xeon OS X (10.5.8)—FCP 5.1.4 —Live Type 2.1. The point is this combination has worked just fine until now. I could switch and use Motion but the project does not warrant the extra time involved.

Is it possible to export a movie from LiveType. I thought Live Type was a stand-alone app that converted the file to a .mov that was imported and rendered into the FCP timeline. Am I missing something regarding your suggestion

Yes, you can export a movie from LiveType... I used to do this when I had it installed and used it.

In LiveType, just render your project and save the render as a movie...

+and I found this in the manual...+

Rendering a LiveType Movie for Export
When working with a third-party application, you will need to render your movie
within LiveType prior to importing it.
To render a full-resolution movie of your project for export:
1 Choose File > Render Movie.
2 Choose a filename and location in the Save dialog, then click “Create new movie file.
