Feb 2, 2012 6:05 AM in response to SuperSizeItby David Camps-Campins1,Thanks for the fix. One of my friend's AppleTV2.0 is displaying a similar issue and will try the SNMP fix.
Sould I also do it on the other express which extends the range?

Feb 2, 2012 7:17 AM in response to David Camps-Campins1by SuperSizeIt,Yes. I turned it off on both my Express N & G that extends the range from my Extreme.
I justed updated the firmware on all three devices and got a Home Sharing drop last night. First time it happened since I did the fix a few weeks back. I've rebooted ATV and the iMac that host my iTunes and if it continues, I'll restore the routers again as before.

Feb 4, 2012 2:17 AM in response to Buckslipby Ramma,Hi Buckslip
I get this problem to. Once the connection is stuffed you get this issue even if it looks like it's reconnected again - for example after rebooting iTunes. To fix this pull the power out of the apple TV wait 3 secs and plug back in again. This normally resolves the issue until the next drop out.
Agree with other posters, this ongoing issue is most definately an apple TV or iTunes issue, not router, network or firewall and is disgusting that it has not been acknowledged let alone fixed. This happens several times weekly, sometimes daily!
If I was able to properly edit missing content in Boxee I would have thrown both my AppTV's into the bin by now.

Feb 4, 2012 6:21 PM in response to Jeet Kby djedefre,I think it is a problem with the Bonjour (mdnsresponder) service...
it will likely affect windows and OS X.
It's the only common thread that I can see across all the scenarios posted here.
a solution would be the appleTV Holy Grail!

Feb 4, 2012 9:59 PM in response to Jeet Kby SuperSizeIt,Ever since the firmware updates ATV started dropping home sharing again. I redid everything that fixed it last time and it's not working. What a piece of junk at this point.

Same here, just go back to the previous version of firmware.

Feb 4, 2012 11:53 PM in response to Jeet Kby SuperSizeIt,I'm going to restore ATV again. I've done everything on the Airport Extreme I can think of. The only thing that drops Home Sharing is ATV. The iMac is wired to Airport 1GB Ethernet. So the iMac is not dropping connection. It's always ATV that's the culprit.

Feb 5, 2012 4:50 AM in response to SuperSizeItby Sandancer,Its frustrating reading the posts on homesharing. There are actually thousands of ATV2 users out there running iTunes on windows and Mac, that are having problems with homesharing. I have had my ATV2 about a year now, and as Steve siad its magical he was right. Then came iTunes 10,5. I have my ATV2 connected by ethernet, I have since tried WiFi to no avail. The problem is the server ( iTunes). This problem has existed for months now and Apple do nothing. Every now and then we get a post where somebody wrights this has worked for them, but they are kidding themselves, because the problem will return. I now use my Atv2 as a paperwieght, because I am tired of disabling and enabling home sharing in iTunes so it will sometimes work. I now use a software DNLA server (which I used prior to buying an Atv2) to stream my iTunes library to my TV.

Feb 5, 2012 9:53 AM in response to Sandancerby SuperSizeIt,Thats an interesting alternative. ATV with iTunes Home Sharing is flawed that Apple seems to be unable to fix or just ignores. It's good to start looking for a reliable system.

Feb 6, 2012 5:43 AM in response to SuperSizeItby philfromsakai,Has anybody contacted their apple support line about this and what did they say??
-
Feb 6, 2012 7:29 AM in response to philfromsakaiby SuperSizeIt,I have and got it exchanged the first time. I went to the Store eplained the problem and go over all the tons of workaround we talked about. So they exchanged it hoping the new one I'll get would fair better. Didn't work, same thing with the new ATV2 that I got.
Anyway after restoring the ATV2 its been good for 2 days now. All day I played as many movies, music that I have and no home sharing drop issue.
