Apr 6, 2011 5:01 PM in response to DavidHeadyby HuskieN,You might be interested in a Remote Desktop app like LogMeIn Ignition, it is a costly $29.99, but is supposedly the best on the market. There are other cheaper options, but based on popularity, LogMeIn Ignition seems best for you. I used Splashtop Remote, and it worked great except for running my bad PC down.

Apr 6, 2011 5:07 PM in response to HuskieNby PogoPossum,I don't think that's quite what the OP is asking for - these apps allow you to take control of the Mac and call up the Mac screen on the iPad, but he wants to view the iPad screen on the Mac. I'm not aware of any tool to do this. -
Apr 6, 2011 5:23 PM in response to DavidHeadyby HuskieN,In that case, if you have an iPad 2 you could compromise and get the HDMI adapter, but it couldn't plug into your Mac. -
Apr 6, 2011 6:42 PM in response to HuskieNby BHolst, need same solution... anyone use Replicate Pro? seems to provide a solution -
Apr 7, 2011 5:10 AM in response to BHolstby PogoPossum,The description of this app seems to indicate it does, but the reviews do not - it looks like more of a remote file manager. From the reviews in iTunes: "It implies that your iPad screen is displayed on your computer but it's not" and "all I see is what's inside this app, not my iPad." -
Apr 7, 2011 6:14 AM in response to PogoPossumby DavidHeady,Just a note thanking all who've contributed thus far. To reiterate the issue I'm looking for what the iPad SDK provides, i.e., an on the desktop in window view of what's going on on my iPad. I'm working in FileMaker Pro on the Mac and translating that into FileMaker Go on the iPad and comparing the different experiences for a webinar where all participants can see the side by side from my Mac desktop.
At present I'm set up with a vertical video camera focused on my horizontal iPad and switching views back and forth. This is awkward and also shows my hand gesturing on the iPad, getting in the way. If I could have that SDK 'look' of an iPad hovering on my Mac desktop (ideally I'd love to do this with the iPhone experience as well, but suspect that to be even further from reality) I would be a happy camper. I've got the video out adaptor but that simply turns my whole Mac monitor into the iPad screen. Nice for some presentations, but not what I'm seeking.
Again, thanks for all the thought and effort. Still open for that solution. -
Jun 21, 2011 6:25 AM in response to DavidHeadyby mhbc,This is in reply to you query about screen capture. I do not know how to contact you other than by jumping into this session.
I do not know if you have had any success in remapping the function keys. (Jan 2011)
I'd been some 5 or 6 days trying to remap F13 before I read your "Remapping the function keys" query. Like you I found the screen capture an awkward chord to play on the keyboard.
I tried modifying the symbolichotkeys plist & the universalaccess plist files but to no avail.
I did install Quickeys and got this to work for F13 but there's this overhead of the program running in background plus the fact it was only a 30 day demo.
Then by chance I was reading about 'sticky keys'
- Preferences - Universal Access - Keyboard - Sticky Keys - On or Off
I set it to On.
Now when you want to do a screen capture you can press in a sequence of
1,2 & then 3
1. Command Shift
2. 4
3. spacebar
No more awkward left handed finger chords.
Hope this helps

May 11, 2012 4:22 AM in response to DavidHeadyby Heidi Oste,Hi David,
Did you ever get a good answer to this? I was just looking to do the same thing for instructional purposes and have yet to find a solution that I am satisfied with. I would love to hear what you ended up using. Thanks,
Heidi

Oct 27, 2015 2:18 PM in response to DavidHeadyby thr33ts79,I am sure this has probably been covered since 2011, but in my search this older post came up, so am adding more detail in case anyone else has this same issue. According to Apple, you can now easily do this by using Quicktime and your iPad. Their page here: How to use QuickTime Player - Apple Support tells how to do that.
Additional steps that I found necessary to know:
Step 1: Attach your iPad to the computer.
Step 2: Turn on the software Quick Time on your Mac.
Step 3: Select File> New Movie Recording. (Two windows should pop-up, the movie screen and the control window)
Step 4: On the control window directly by the record button select the arrow, Select the input source of your iPad instead of FaceTime, also, select the microphone source from your iPad as well if necessary.
Hope this helps
