When using Photobooth to either take pictures or videos it freezes. It goes through the motion of taking the picture by counting down and everything, even has the green light on. But after taking the picture the new picture does not appear at the bottom of the application window where it normally should, and the green light stays on as if the camera is still being used. No pictures can be saved and you can't attempt to take any more pictures because it still thinks it is taking a picture. Any suggestions? All help is welcome.
(1) First try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try
all relevant suggestions from:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(2)
If your Mac's inbuilt iSight does not work properly in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested in the above linked article often restores proper function.
(3) *If your built-in iSight still does not work with
any Apple apps in
any user account* after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's
System Profiler utility, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
(4)
If your only problem is with Photo Booth, first try resetting Photo Booth (PB) preferences. If you have never done it, here is how:
• Restart Mac
• Navigate to the "
com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist" file in your
Home (

)
> Library > Preferences folder.
(Be sure you are in the Home Folder preferences folder, not your System's.)
• Throw the "
com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist" file in the Trash
• Launch PB and test again.
(5) If the PB problem persists, apply the 10.5.8 Combo Update using the following process:
• Backup your Mac. If you used Time Machine, turn it off now.
• Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
• Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
• Download and install
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
• Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
• Test PB again
(• Turn Time Machine on again when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
(6) We will watch for your status update.
