Deleting email on iPhone 4, but doesn't delete on computer email-how to??

I just got an iPhone, so have lots of questions. Namely, when I delete emails on my phone, they are not deleted from my computer (MacBook). I don't know if this is a synching thing or what. So, I have to delete them twice, which seems silly.
I read something about an IMAP account, but not sure what that is or how to do it. Currently, I have a POP account through Verizon.
Help! anyone??

That's your problem. You'll need to set up mail as imap if you want what you do on one device to be synchronized across everything with your mail account.

Did you try:
go into Settings\Mail, Contacts, Calendars\[email account]

Set Archive Messages to Off.

Go into your settings, select the e-mail account, then select advanced settings. There should be an option to delete from server immediately, after one day, etc. (depending on the e-mail account). Hope this helps.

1. Go to your ICLOUD account.

2. Touch the Account.

3. Go to the Advance tab towards the bottom, Tap on that.

4. Tap on the Advance tab once more.

5. the deleted messages Tap on the REMOVE.

6. Tap the never. Make sure the ck mark is there.

7. When going back make sure you hit the done button so you save your entries.

These instructions are the ONLY ones tht worked on the newest iPhone software. The new software doesn't have the options for "remove from server". Thanks!!!!!!!
