Contact Names not showing names in SMS and When some one calls.

Hei,
I have just changed sim card and this problem came up.
In sms it does not shows name who is sending sms just the number.
Also when some one is calling it does not shows the name.
I have tried rebooting. It does not works.
Any one have any solution to this problem.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Are all of your contacts showing up correctly in the contacts app of your iPhone, and or on your computer?

Do you have Mobile Me? I have had problems with Mobile Me in the past, and my contacts get corrupted and then when it updates my contacts on my phone I get only numbers. But I have not had it happen where only some of them are lost, when it has happened it has been my entire contacts list. I then must re-sync my contacts from my computer to Mobile Me, then my phone is updated.

If your contacts info is all good on your phone, I'm afraid to say I have no idea as to why this is happening. But if you subscribe to Mobile Me and have it sync to your phone, log in and see if those contacts are there.

Is the SIM card from the same country as the previous one?
Are you storing the numbers in contacts in international format (e.g. +47 4xx xx xxx)?

I'm having the same issue. Some SMS show the contact name others don't. The SMSs are being sent from people on the same network - some show names, others only numbers.

Did the reset to factory settings work?

I do such to mobile me and it is my sync tool for all my devices: iPhone4, iPad, MacBook pro. I used to sync also to google contacts and outlook but disconnected those when I started to have problems. The problems began on my 3GS about 6 months ago on 4.2 update. Now it is continued to the iphone4 with 4.3.1.

If what you mean by "correctly" is that the name and number are accurate and reflect the proper country code and telephone, then YES, it is correctly displayed.

That being said, I have noted some unusual things including:

1. the photo sometimes does not match the individual (it is of someone else)
2. some address data is duplicated (physical address)

I have tried everything.
But nothing is working yet. I tried a lot of things.
I restored iphone but it did not work. Now when i am getting calls no names appear just the numbers.
Also having problems to sync iPhone to my mac because it says sync file does not exist.
When i restored my iphone it showed some Conflict with contact like from gmail and mobile me.
I opted for mobile me but still had the same problem and now i can not sync contacts with my mac.
And also i have another question what is the concept of start new iphone will i lose all my apps. If i use the same apple account will i be able to install my apps which i have bought from apple store.

This worked for me. Was using google sync AND iCloud to sync contacts. Turned off iCloud sync and told it to remove all contacts that were left on my phone when it prompted me and now everything works. Names show up when I receive a txt. I would recommend exporting your google contacts on your computer before doing this just in case. Just log into google, click on 'contacts' and then click on 'more' and then 'export'. Hope this helps someone.

dusting cobwebs off this problem. I had this problem since i restored my iPhone 4 onto my iPhone 4s. turned out to be a corrupted address book database on the phone.

deleting the database @ /Users/Library/AddressBook (all files starting with AddressBook) (while Addressbook NOT running and when iCloud sync and iTunes sync both off) and re-run address book to create empty database before re enable sync solved it!

The name will only appear if the number matches, exactly, the corresponding contact in the contacts app. This has nothing to do with your sim card.

Numbers match i have checked.
This was the first thing i did.
Earlier it was working well and good i never this problem earlier.
I have also updated the os. A few days back.

Try resetting your phone:

Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off).

Matthew is right, please add country code in your contact number. I had this problem in the beginning too but sorted it out myself...

Yes - same country, country code installed. When I get an SMS from one person it shows content name. Others don't. And they are on the same network.

Yes- sim from same country. Some SMS are fine others do not show contact name despite the fact they are both from same network as mine and both have country codes assigned to them.
