Apr 9, 2011 3:27 PM in response to dan froshby dan frosh,I know there are previous posts about similar subjects...but uploading multiple fcp projects daily, I can't see how to distinguish factors for scheduling them to have metadata added....There is really no way to just add metadata to large groups of assets????
There seems like a ridiculously easy solution must exist to avoid having to paste words in to about 3000 assets one asset at a time...
Any ideas?
I am getting desperate here

Apr 10, 2011 8:00 AM in response to dan froshby A. Richards,There is a way to batch add metadata, but it isn't iTunes-easy and you need to be have admin rights on your FCSvr to do it. Also, this is a manual process after each set of assets exist. Anything more automatic would require custom scripting.
You can use the Search Expired response to batch other responses. Create a new Search Expired response and set it to use the Custom 1 event type. Set the Timestamp Field to "Creation Date". Leave the Expiry Days empty. Below that you can filter based on the usual options or leave them all open to hit all your assets (up to you).
Next, create a Set Asset Metadata response and populate it with the value you want to apply to your assets. Set this response to run by Subscription based on the Custom 1 event type.
Finally, schedule your Search Expired response to run. When it does, it will fire what amounts to a dummy event (Custom 1) on the filter it was set for, triggering the Subscription you set up to listen for that event type. That fires the Set Asset Metadata response, and now all your assets are tagged with the desired default in the new field.
The Custom event types are there for tethering a Search Expired response to a Subscription, so unless you know what you are doing, avoid the other event types on a Search Expired response.
The official documentation does not really explain this very well, but it does indeed work. Once you get the desired result, you can disable the schedule for the Search Expired response. -
Apr 11, 2011 2:08 PM in response to dan froshby dan frosh,Thanks for the help. Some progress was seemingly made whereby I could set up a scheduled event and change the keyword metadata of the fcp project, but I haven't been able to change the elements within those projects...Of the options listed, the assets have location in common and description, but specifying location hasn't yielded any results and there is no asset filter field for description...
It seems i'm on the right track but I only want to change metadata of elements withhin a fcp project, not all elements. It feels like this program is going out of its way to make this not possible
thanks again for the help

Apr 11, 2011 3:19 PM in response to dan froshby dan frosh,Location seems to be the only metatdata filter that would work, any reason that this method wouldn't effect it? I am running the operation but nothing is changing besides the fcp project file metadata.
thanks again -
Apr 12, 2011 7:55 AM in response to dan froshby dan frosh,Another thought...since none of my metadata categories to filter my responses exists (cant filter through description or location)...I was thinking if I can lock all my project files besides the one I want to change the asset metadata of...Will this work? Afraid to try as don't want to change all assets
Ive been having dreams about final cut server and not figuring out this problem and people on forums not helping when help is available and final cut server documentation is the worst thing ever made besides the software itself.
thanks
