QT 7.6.6 not recognizing serial for Pro update.

Ok, I seem to be the only one having this problem. I go to "registration" under the quicktime 7 menu, I put in my name and then the working serial key. And I see the logo has now changed to Pro, but nothing happens after that and I really need to get Pro working so I can do some .flv to .mov conversions. Any takers?

If logo changes to read "Pro", then that is all that is supposed to happen. If you plan to work of FLV files in QT 7 Pro, do you have the Perian component package installed? If you do, remember the FLV files will not open by double-clicking on them in the Finder. Instead, open the FLV file from within the running QT 7 Pro app or drop-open the the FLV file in the Finder.

Well if thats all thats supposed to happen then where is quick time pro?

The "Pro" functionality is built into the QT 7 Player app. However, access is turned off until you purchase a "key" for the player.

it still just says quicktime 7 and it wont open the flv files at all.

Above you indicated the logo had "changed to Pro" which implies you correctly keyed the player for use. If this is true, then all of the menu options previously unavailable (said "Pro" in gray letters) now should be available for your use. For instance, can you now convert a loaded file or open the "Properties" window to examine its settings? If so then QT 7 Pro is correctly working.

As to FLV files, they are not natively supported by QT 7 and so you must install an FLV codec to open them. The Perian component package is free and supports FLV, DivX, Xvid, as well as, other compression formats not natively supported by QT. (Be sure to read the Perian compatibility notes to avoid component conflicts.) If already installed, then re-read my remarks about the opening of FLV files. They are recognized as general document files and must be opened by QT 7 using the FLV installed component. Once opened, you can save the content (usually Sorenson H.263/MP3) to an MOV file container using the "Save As..." File menu option or convert the contents to any other compression format(s) for which your system is configured.

Downloaded a copy of the file for a "look-see."

Ok I installed Perian but when I open the .flv file it still says "this is not a movie file".

File opened fine for me using the Perian codec.

Video content is TrueMotion VP6 with MP3 audio. Have placed the file in a queue for conversion to H.264/AAC but it will be over an hour before it will be converted as I have 2 other files in front of it.

FOLLOW-UP:

Okay... just finished a test conversion of the downloaded file. Cropped letterbox area and converted to content to H.264/AAC using classic iPod data rates and stored it in an MOV file container. File is about 3 times the size of the FLV file but I wanted to retain as much of the original video quality as possible. You can access the file HERE if you wish. Not sure what is going on with your system but everything looks normal on my system.
