iPad 2 viewing hd videos

Hi,

I am wondering if ipad2 will play h.264 videos that I've got.... they are hd quality, a 2hr movie will be up to 8gb... these movies do not play on ipad 1 and iphone 4 smoothly in any way, they judder... just wondering if anyone that has an ipad2 can confirm this with me, because i don't want to buy one and it wouldn't play smoothly, which will defeat the whole point of buying it for me..

Many thanks guys!

The question is where did the video originate? If it is the HD videos sold in the iTunes Store, all of them should work perfectly on an iPad. Videos from other sources can fall out side the parameters of the iPad and do not work so well.

Have you imported this video directly into iTunes? Have you tried to have iTunes or Handbrake convert the video to an iPad version? What video app are you using to view this video? Have you tried VLC for these videos?

Thanks for the quick response.

I am not getting these videos from itunes, I just ripped them from my own bluray and compressed it down to 4-8gb....

they are in .mkv format and I use vlc, oplayer, buzzplayer to watch them... i don't mind about the viewing resolution, whether the edges are cut or not, I just want to know if it would play smoothly on i2....

Thanks!

I never have stuttering problem viewing HD videos on my iPod Touch 4 nor iPad 2. The original poster is probably using wrong file source to encode. I get better PQ than most other people because I am experienced in this area.

Recommendation: Find yourself uncompressed MPEG2-TS files. They are huge. 5 minutes worth of video will take up 700MB. I use Clone2Go software and convert it to 1280x720@ 10 Mbps for pristine PQ. I then use iTunes to import them to ipod or ipad 2. No stutter, no nothing. They are very sharp and crisp.
