Component AV Cable

Hi folks

Have searched on here for an answer to my query but conflicting information is shown so wanted to see if I can get a consensus about the Component AV Cable.

I've just bought an official Apple Component AV Cable in HMV, hooked it up to my TV and iPhone 4, running iOS 4.3, and no sound or video on my TV.

Is this down to a faulty cable or a faulty iOS?

Any help/advice appreciated before I take this back to HMV...

I purchased the same cables "official" apple brand and I can get sound from the iphone4 to my TV but the picture looks scrambed or diagonal lines going through it. Same result happened from viewing Netflix app, youtube, movie played via iphone video player. All have sound no picture...

Also...I plugged the 3 video output cables to the corresponding plugs on my old TV.

I purchased this about 2 months ago but didn't try it out until this weekend..you think I can get a refund?

I have just found that same issue. iPad before update to IOS 5 I could use either Apple composite or component cables to watch videos from VLC player or GoodReader or other video players and since the update I can't.


I think Apple changed something in the update as if I go into Videos I can play my podcasts.


So come on Apple or Developers sort it out.

The way that I solved the no video but only audio issue with the composite AV cable, is as follow:


With the composite AV cable hooked up to the TV and connected to your iPhone, go to Setting. You should be able to see TV connection option (this option will not show if AV cable isn't connected to your iPhone). Under the Widescreen slider, go ahead and turn it off then back on again.


You should be able to see the video display... at least it works with my iPhone 4.


Unfortunately, once you disconnect the AV cable with the iPhone, and later reconnect it again... you will have to repeat the process of going to the Setting-TV Connection-Widescreen Off-Widescreen On.... again.


I think it is is bug that can be easily fix by the programmer.

omg, you are my hero. the third party cable was working fine for a year before i upgraded to 5.0.1. The places around me doesn't have apple component cable so I brought a composite cable to see if it will work. It did but it reminded me why I didn't get an official cable in the first place. The plug sticks to the tv like glue after I plug it in. The composite cable is going back to the store. The widescreen off and on trick works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Apple failed to impress again. I think they put the stupid bug in the update on purpose to sell more Apple branded cables. I won't be buying another Apple product after this...

Having the same problem here. I plugged my Apple Component Cable into my TV, then plugged my iPhone into the cable. Neither TV connection nor widescreen appeared in Settings. The iPhone would siaply video, no sound; the TV displayed neither sound nor video. And I verified that the TV works. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
