maybe [this|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538] support article can help.

also, make sure [_*Apple Mobile Device Service*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567] is installed and started.

    why not ?

re-installing the iTunes application has no influence on your media files, playcounts, ratings, etc.

click here and follow the instructions.

so if i delete my itunes and uninstall, i wont lose all my music? And if this should happen, is there a way to get it all back without having to re-pay for it?

no, so make a backup before you start.

I have a similar problem, except my computer doesn't even recognize my ipod at all, tells me that it malfunctioned and can't be accessed, and this started with the update before 10.2. I know it's not the ipod, because it works fine on my other computer. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything for itunes and the ipod on my main computer but to no avail.
