Address Book create multiple 'No Name' entries - how do I stop this?
(I sync the following devices via iTunes 2xiPhone3g, 1xiPad, 4xiPod) Only the iPhones are set to sync the address book
MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Quad Core Intel, 2.66GHz,

I don't use mobileme. I use a 3rd party software to sync my address book with my google account.
They'll probably make you pay then. Not sure though.
I'm having the No Name problem with all my address books, iPhone, Mac Book and ICloud.
I have spent a day deleting duplicate son iCloud to no avail. THe I tride to delete all contats on iCloud with no success.
I'm just getting off iCloud for now until these bugs are resolved.
Did you have Microsoft office for mac 2011 installed? I think the problem lies w/ Microsoft Outlook address book continually synching and creating multiple 'olk' type entries. I had to individually delete those 'olk' files from my hard drive and that helped. Avoiding using Microsoft Outlook is best.
Avoiding Microsoft Outlook may solve the problem, but I (and others) purchased the package with the capability of synching with iTunes.
The onus is on Apple to make it work. - "Apple" please solve or and make it easy for us to use!
(Usability is he reason I converted to Mac)
I was able to go to the Address Book on my computer and delete the 'No Name' entries. By shift clicking you can select a few hundred at a time then hit 'delete'. iCloud syncs my address book and so far the entries are removed from my computer, phone and ipad.
I would gladly spend the time cleaning my address book database of 158,380 NoName contacts...buy Address Book will not open. I was able to delete the NoNames from iCloud but they remain on my iPhone. Every time I shut down iCloud I am 'rewarded' with thousands of new NoName contacts. Heavy sigh!
I uopgraded to Lion on a new MacBookPro and at the same time upgraded my ipohone to IOS 5.0.1. I turned on Icloud sync. Since then only trouble.
Calendars and contacts don't sync. Its impossible to turn off the sync feature on the Iphone 4s. Phone and other windows go blank. My contact folder is filled up with 78000 "no name" entries.
All these problems cannot be unknown to Apple- judging from the many similar tickets I find on the web.
What to do?
I couldn't find any way to delete these unsolicited No Name entries from my address book, I also have thousands of No Name entries, I keep trying to delete directly on Finder but keep crashing my outlook and database recovery starts... I will keep following news.
I should have posted before now. I took my MBPro to the Apple store where one of the genius dudes did his magic and was able to copy the valid (non-duplicate) contacts to a clean version of Address Book then deleted the old Address Book. All is well. I would never have been able to do this on my own. Kudos to the Genius Bar folks.
I might have a solution I noticed on my phone under settings/facebook there is the option to have ON or OFF access to your FB account. It seems for me that alot of no name are people with fb accts that dont have full contact information so I have turned it off and I will let you know if it stops my billion NO NAMEs etc.
I now have more than 1.5million contacts, 90% of which are "no name" in my mac Address book. I believe that I may have inadvertently been syncing with google and I cloud at the same time. I use entourage rather than Mac MAil. Anyone got a clue as to why my addresses are expanding like a virus. It is killing my iphone whihc has now all but dies due to number of contacts.
Jonathonb48, see my answer above. TAKE IT TO AN APPLE GENIUS BAR. they should be able to reinstall a clean Address Book. It worked for me.
It's been a while since you've posted this question so maybe you've already found the solution by now but I found the same thing was happening to me as well. I solved it by going to my settings/mail,contacts, calendars then under accounts you will see outlook. Under outlook it has the option to turn the contacts on or off and your contacts are most likely on which is why you have multiple no name entries. When you turn this off the no name entries should be gone. The no name entries are your email contacts that outlook automatically syncs to your address book. I hope this helps 🙂
I Turned of in outlook the contacts you suggested. It then deleted all my contacts. When I turn it back on, everything comes back including all the no names. urrgggg frustratinG.
