Address Book create multiple 'No Name' entries - how do I stop this?

For some reason my address book is creating lots of No Name cards. We are talking over 2600 in two weeks. I delete them and they keep returning. Why? How can I make it stop?
(I sync the following devices via iTunes 2xiPhone3g, 1xiPad, 4xiPod) Only the iPhones are set to sync the address book

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Quad Core Intel, 2.66GHz,

Hi Shan,

I am having the same problem and don't quite understand your solution. Would you mind being a bit more specific with what you mean by 'settings/mail,contact,calendars' and 'under accounts'?

I am not a Mac guy and am fixing this issue for my father and couldn't find those headings anywhere (settings called preferences, etc.)

I was trying to fix on his Macbook, but could also fix via his iPhone so if you can, let me know the easiest way.

Thanks very much,

BT

My Mac was prompting me to add 47,000 new contacts so I talked with Apple about the problem. They said the engineering team was already looking into the problem and I had a case number already. I guess I had reached a limit on their servers. Seems strange the would cut off access to my contacts on me.com and start a ticket without contacting me. The ticket was started on the 16th. I was told it should be fixed within a week. Still waiting...
