I have an iphone 4. I recently got internet back up at my home using an older wireless router. At first my wifi worked, but then we tried to hook up a older imac osx computer to the same router. After this my wifi just stopped working. I've disconnected my cable modem and also the wireless router, and reset my network settings on my iphone. It still does not work. I know there is a problem if my ip address on my iphone starts with 169 BUT, my ip address nor the subnet mask, router or DNS shows information to know if i have this problem.
Overall, my iphone picks up the wireless, has a check next to the network, but the wifi signal on my homescreen doesn't display even though i have the check. It just still has the "E"
I was trying to update the firmware, but when i tried to download it from the linksys website it downloads but my computer doesn't recognize what to open the file up with. Does it matter if i'm trying to update the firmware if i'm not using the original computer that i've first hooked the router up to?
You download the update, but you should not open it, just save it. Then log in to the router with a web browser to http://192.168.1.1 and look for the menu item to update the firmware.
The default on Linksys routers is no username and password "admin". If it has been changed you will have to restore the router to factory settings by holding the reset button on the back for 10 seconds.
