Will Apple fix a broken ipod touch 4th gen screen?

I dropped my ipod touch 4g and the screen broke, also the touch screen doesn't work anymore, its not even a year old yet, but I didn't buy apple care for it will they replace the screen? or do I have to buy one of those DIY kits? and if the apple store does fix it how much do they charge?

That is unusual for Apple to do that, but you are the second one I heard of lately that got a new one. I have a feeling the iPod touches might be prone to damage easily when dropped and Apple doesn't want any negative press, so they are just replacing them for free. They will just go fix your old one and sell it as a refurb anyway.

yeah I know I was amazed too, I bought mine less that 2 weeks after they came out and what I'm noticing with the replacement I got is that it is faster and more responsive than the one that broke, also the light sensor is more sensitive to light changes and adjusts accordingly, maybe the first batch of touches were a little defective and they replaced it because it fell under the one year warranty, because they told me they were going to check it and took it to the backroom and then a few mins later they replaced it no questions asked, though they did tell me that the screen damage was not covered by the warranty. I am now very happy with my new one!

Really? That's nice! What was the proecdure?

Do they ask for a reciept? Do you have to have Applecare?

Please respond, I just broke my iTouch 4G 8GB screen, and I sent an email to the only reseller in town,

and they said it could cost up to 300 euros! ($411). And I really DON'T want to pay that much as you might as well just buy a new one!
