My favorite protectors come from http://www.screenpatronus.com but they won't have them for a few more weeks. They are so easy to work with. If you get a bubble (or dust under the screen), just take a piece of scotch tape and raise a corner, then smooth it back out. No heavy glue. I have even removed them, and stuck them to a clean mirror and put them back on bubble free with a GPS I had to return twice. I have mine on order.

PS, they one on my iPad1 has been on there for a year, and it has minor scratches, but still looks GREAT!

As I posted earlier, the ZAGG screen protector is amazing - IMO. If you follow the instructions (you can watch a video online) and apply it correctly, you will not get bubbles.

This particular protector is applied wet with a solution supplied with the screen protector. If you apply it according to the directions and let the iPad sit for the amount of time suggested to allow the protector to adhere properly, you will not have one single bubble. I have no bubbles at all under my ZAGG screen protector.

No. My opinion is they don't help, and frankly, make the iPad messy. I have never scratched any iPad or iPhone I have ever had. I am slightly more concerned about the back than the screen. So I bought a sleeve to carry it around.

I used to think the same way as you. I too have a Targus case that I carry my iPad around in and I love it as well. If you are very careful, I agree with you - a screen protector is not needed. But the peace of mind I get with my ZAGG and the fact that I am no longer obsessed with cleaning my fingerprints off of the iPads screen, makes using the screen protector worthwhile.

DCGOO is correct, but you are wrong...

The glass tech incorporated in iPad and iPad 2 screen is gorilla strong. People are having really hard time trying to scrach the thing unless you try rubbing it hard with sand or diamond. Read this:

You are better off without the protector cover for the screen. I've learned the hard way. Like what DCGOO said, you may want to worry about protecting the back side of the device. iPod Touch 4 was stupidly delicate on backside. iPad 2 is better but still, can easily be scratched, which is why I got the iPad case instead. This is peace of mind. ZAGG is overpriced unnecessary junk.

The OP was asking for opinions Mr. Know It All. I never said that is was or was not definitively scratch proof

Having a really hard time scratching the glass and being "scratch proof" are two different things Mr Know It All.

I didn't see anything in the article saying that the glass is totally "scratch proof".

One last time Mr. Know It All ... the OP asked if the glass is "scratch proof" then asked for our opinions on protectors.

That doesn't mean you are the definitive expert. I'm not and do not claim to be.

DCGOO had an opinion (as stated). Opinions are not correct or incorrect.

?
So you work for marketing/PR for Corning?
How exactly is glass "gorilla strong"? What does that mean?
People are having really hard time trying to scrach the thing unless you try rubbing it hard with sand or diamond

if it was scratch proof, it could not be scratched with anything.

I am considering getting one of the anti-glare display protectors. Many of the mentioned brands offer this option. This reduces the glare from sunlight or other bright light.

I have used display protectors on a number of iOS devices and am pleased with the results. The displays are as pristine as the day they were unboxed. The displays show less fingerprinting then the iPad's natural surface and I do not find that they interfere with the capacitive interface of the touch display in the slightest.

Those who have opinions against the protectors are almost as rabid as exsmokers are against smoking!

Agree with you on all points; I've "skinned" over 9 devices and prefer the protection. As well, better resale value when someone knows it's been skinned since purchase. Also agree on reduction of fingerprints.

I have tried a couple of anti-glare protectors - they have a bit of a 'sparkly' undertone to them; if you can get used to that they are great. I prefer them, myself. My choice of skins is bestskinsever.com. Inexpensive, in comparative terms, and they support a number of devices. I just installed a full-body kit on my iPad 2 and love the way the skin covers all of the back/sides. I even added some very tiny adhesive rubber feet on top of the skin; keeps the iPad in place wherever I set it down.

I certainly wouldn't do without skins on my devices. I'm not the most graceful of individuals, and those skins have saved my devices a few times from a drop on cement and tile floors.
