My battery has been swelled out of it's casing for a little while now, I plan to replace it soon (everything has been working fine still). However, just recently while I was working away on it I heard this gas-like release sound from underneath, followed by a new mac product smell (like when you open the box to an iPhone, etc).
I'm worried now. Is this a bad sign and should I make battery replacement a major priority now?
I'm thinking this is another warning, similar to the swelling...

should I make battery replacement *a major priority now?*
Should have been _the moment you noticed the swelling._ Replace the battery asap. If it "leaks," if it hadn't already, the battery will damage your computer.
I will second that the same thing destroyed my fiance's 2007 MBP and she had to replace her whole MBP because of it. I recommend not using your computer until you get the replacement battery.
