pencil icon crossed out

Question

pencil icon crossed out

Hi I am trying to ftp using go>connect to server. I can access the server but it won't allow me to do anything else.

There is a pencil in the bottom right hand corner crossed out, does this have anything to do with it?

That pencil with the slash means you don't have write permission on the connected server.

OK how do I change it so that I do have write permission?

The owner of the server will have to change it so the account you're using to login has permission.

The Finder will only give you read-only access to FTP servers; to write to them, you need to use the Terminal or a third-party client.

Well that is really weird because a few days before it allowed me to upload 2 files. It was only when I tried to delete them that I noticed it wouldn't allow me to and also would no longer allow me to upload files either.

Mmm strange. Obviously something has changed but I don't know what.
