Since I can't remove my post I want to follow up on it.
Portenzo's cases are marvelous but I clearly had a slightly funky one... I saw a co-worker's case and it was so very much like mine but, as I wrote, mine was a little off. Portenzo came back to me, offered to send me out a new case international express to replace the one I have or refund my money and let me keep the off-one. No way - the more I use it, the more I like it so I took the replacement.
It's a really fantastic case - materials and finish are neigh-perfect. Alas, we're all human and boo-boos hit the best of us. Portenzo is a bit of a victim of their own success, with their response time to letters is running a week now, but if something is amiss they certainly went the extra mile…and then some.
Highly, highly recommended.
I just bought this one:

It protects the iPad well.
Once taken out of the case, it can be used as a stand for the iPad.
The inclination can be adjusted to any angle, in portrait or landscape position.
Instead of the Apple cover, I bought a Adesso model WKB-2000CB case with a bluetooth keyboard - http://tinyurl.com/6dmstye
It was the same price as the Apple leather case. The bluetooth keyboard is much easier to use than the screen keyboard.
 Cheers, Tom 😉
For those who want a thin case, this is the thinnest and slimmest I found, and still have the smart cover/hibernation and magnetic closure:

And yeah, they have the white color as well. Looks great!
I really like this one so far.
I think it has a lot going for it. It's great looking and the stand works perfect for me.
Targus Versavu 360 Degrees Rotating Stand Case for Apple iPad 2 2nd Generation Wifi / 3G Model 16GB, 32GB, 64GB THZ045US NEWEST MODEL (Black/Blue Interior)
I have been searching for a few weeks in stores and online and I think I have just found the perfect case (for me) :-) What I like about it:
- Smart cover
- Portrait and landscape viewing angles
- Colorfrul design

The only drawback I see so far is that it does not have a handstrap.
For iPad 2 leather cases, I narrowed down to these 3 websites:
Given my budget of $100, I just bought the Speck MagFolio Luxe one for my friend. Sena Cases and Cases for Guys have cheaper options.
This is a very personal choice, so there is no right answer, but here are a few of my cases and those I've seen at work:

Targus Cover

Targus Keyboard Case

Otterbox Reflex Series Hybrid Case

Griffin Survivor Heavy Duty Case

Snugg Case
I had this case for my Fire and recently purchased the "New Ipad" version. Only $20 bucks on Amazon for a legit, professional-looking case with a quality build.

I really like this case: https://www.cellairis.com/product/apple-ipad-2-case-plaid-black-white. I've been using it since Christmas and haven't had any issues.
My wife got this one and she loves it: https://www.cellairis.com/product/cellairis-trek-folio-for-apple-ipad-2-new-ipad -hot-pink
I think this is the best case i have seen , so good looking and really stand out,
Switcheasy CARA Hex-Textured Folio case for iPad 2
I actually heard of Yoobao from my friend. He worked in a company that deploys iPad 2, and bought 200+ Yoobao case to protect them. So yes, it's very "businesslike" 🙂
Best I have seen is the i_lid.
Solid wood and made in the USA. They are expensive, but worth it. I love mine.
The new iBackFlip Somersault is really the best case/backpack/sling on the market right now for the iPad. Just came out, and it's the only handsfree option. Video: http://youtu.be/EucwI8AhKGo?hd=1
@iron_lady
I would suggest you look at the iBackFlip also. It does way more then the Speck and Sena Cases:
