MACBOOK OSX 10.5.8 w/ mac dvi to HMDI to HDTV NOT WORKING

I have a macbook 2008 OSX 10.5.8
with mac adapter dvi to hmdi , hdmi cable to LG 32LE5300 HDTV.
Hooked it up last night.. tv seems to work fine.
BUT when i attempted to hook my macbook all that showed up is the picture on my desktop but none of the files or links or etc... SO i tried to move them to the left or right and noticed my cursor would go to the flatscreen but I couldn t open a file on the flat screen or the internet
So can anyone help me please ? thanks

You have the display set in "extended desktop" mode. In "System Preferences">"Display" there should be an "Arrangement" tab when you have the TV hooked up to the MacBook. Do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a "Menu Bar" at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. When you disconnect from the TV your Menu bar will automaticly change back to the MacBook.

You'll need external speakers to hear sound since the Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter only carries video not audio. Plug the external speakers into the headphone jack on the MacBook.
