Q: RAID 0 Stripe Disappeared but the two RAID 5 slices still available...
Hey Guys
First of all I would like to say that the below configuration I'm about to outline is nothing to do with me and I had no say in the set up - I'm working in a small post facility and unfortunately inherited it! So yes - I know its a crazy set up but its what was here when I arrived.
Right - basically I have a 16Tb (16 x 1Tb drives) SATA RAID which was split into two LUNS. Each LUN was configured into a RAID 5. These two RAID 5 configurations were then SOFTWARE striped into a RAID 0 config and connected to a server using SCSI.
This set up was then split into several partitions/share points and for the last 18 months 4 edit suites have been sharing this set up over 10gig ethernet using Mac OSX Server Snow Leopard.
Basically the other day this video server went down and upon restarting the server the Striped RAID 0 was no longer available and would not mount.
In disk utility on the server the two separate RAID 5 slices show up as 6.4 Tb separate drives but the computer will no longer see them as a single stripe and thus none of the data can be read.
Is there anyway to recover the Stripe without losing any/all of the data??? Is it possible to rebuild the raid with out data loss?
Any answer would be greatly appreciated as at the moment we have many very pressing projects that are urgently required to be recovered, and getting them back from the back up set will be very time consuming and slow.
Many Thanks in Advance
JB
