Toslink and MacBook Pro

Hi, I'm trying to connect a MacBook Pro to a Logitech z5500 speakers via Toslink.

I already tried all the system and it works great but when I put it all in place the speakers for some reason don't read the digital output, I have connected the optical toslink cable to a DVD system and IT WORKS but when I connect the very same cable to the mini-toslink adapter and then to the macbook it doesn't work, I have checked all my settings several times and also tried with another macbook without success.

Can some one please give me a step by step guide so I can see what could be wrong? THANK YOU!

I want to add that I tested the speakers with a desktop computer using the optical output the board has, and it worked, why any of the 3 macbooks doesn't work?

Have you tried using the Audio MIDI Setup utility to make sure everything is routed properly?

That wasn't the issue, the problem was on the cable, for some weird reason the cable+mini-toslink adaptor doesn't work, I decided to go to the store where I buy it and they give me a new optical cable that works.
