Trackpad settings keep reverting back to default

Hey guy, I'm hoping i can get some help with this.

This has only been happening very recently, about 5-6 days. I have my trackpad setting to "tap to click", and i hate having to push to trackpad in order to click anything on screen. The problem I'm having is that every time i go on my MAC the next day, this setting changes back to default and im having to go into setting again to change it. How can i stop this from happening?

I have not installed any 3rd party applications, nor have i downloaded any illegitimate programs that could potential write over system files. Im fairly new to the MAC (only been using it for about a year) and maybe there's something I'm missing, any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated..!

Thank you

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

The computer may require a reset of the +system management controller...+

• Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

There had been a reset method in prior models of PPC powerbooks, etc
that worked by putting your palm/hand flat over the trackpad for a few
seconds, then moving it one direction in one pass. However, that seems
to not be suggested in remedies to resolve Intel-based trackpad issues.

Hopefully the SMC reset will help.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
