Q: this must have been solved by now... black screen issue

switched to mac last week after about 25 years... (last mac was a performa) just got a 27 inch i7 Mac (really nice btw) and I've searched a bit and have not found any recent discussions on this problem;

Getting front row to display its UI, and play movies on my secondary monitor was easy enough, no problem at all really... but it doesn't serve really help anyone out if it blacks out the other monitor. In my office I'm used to working on one monitor (or playing wow or some other nonsense) and having DVDs, netflix, or other video playing on the secondary monitor... to be honest I'm surprised it functions the way it does because it seems counter intuitive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
