SD card slot not recognizing SD Card

Hi,

Im pretty new to Mac and its products and am having a problem. I have a macbook pro, about 6 months old. I have been using the same 16gb Sandisk SDHC card for the entire time Ive owned the computer. Today I inserted it to transfer some photos and nothing happens. Not in Finder and not on the Desktop. I checked my Finder preferences and all looks ok. Most of the time I have found solutions for any problems online but this time I cant find anything that helps.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Tony

Ive now done an SMC restore and a Permissions repair. I also tried booting up with the SD card in the slot. Absolutely nothing.

It was working completely fine 2 days ago. I didnt do anything I can think of in that time to cause this. I didnt install anything or change any settings.

Any ideas?? Im at a loss here and would love to avoid having to make an appt with the Genius Bar.

I have a 17" 2006 Macbookpro that has a flash card reader in express slot - been using it for sd cards for years - now w 10.6.7 it won't read. I also have brand new 17" Macbookpro, latest version, also will not read sd card with reader installed. Also have two usb card readers, doesn't matter, neither machine will read anything. Automatic ejects, one brief read that I got one file down and then auto eject, now neither machine will recognize any flash media loaded in readers in express slots or loaded in either usb mounted readers - come on apple, get it together

@KawaiGardiner how would I know whether I did the combo update? I just searched for updates and clicked install when it asked to. And, again sorry for the ignorance, but where would I check those other things?

@kisuke3 Ive tried about 4 cards. And I dont see why the first card would be the problem, Ive been using it since I get the comp and it worked as recently as Sunday.

Thanks for the help guys.
I have an appt at the Genius bar tomorrow morning. I'll keep this updated.
