Connection to monitor suddenly seemed to stop working.

About a month ago I was connecting my MacBook to an 15" LCD monitor (hp w1858) using a mini display port to VGA adapter and it was working great.
Later, I then connected the mac to a large HDTV (with some resolution difficulty) to give a presentation. When I went back to hook up the LCD, my Mac seemed to not recognize or "see" the monitor, even when I use the Detect Displays command.
It is not just this monitor, but also projectors that It will not recognize.

I just recently went to the site and downloaded the 10.6.7 Composite update... no luck.

Any help?
Thanks

Try moving com.apple.windowserver.plist to the Desktop and restarting to see if that helps. You can find this file in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences.

You may also have to move com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.plist to the Desktop as well. You can find that file in your user account at:

YourUserAccount/Library/Preferences/ByHost

If that doesn't work, just put the files back in their original location.
