Creating a contacts group

Currently I sync my iPhone with my Gmail contacts. As this list is quite long I would like to create a group with my most commonly used contacts. That way when texting I can much more quickly choose contacts to text to. How can this be done?

What am I missing? I have Gmail groups but cannot access them on my iPhone.

on your iPhone, under settings:mail, contacts and calendars: select your gmail account. Do you have sync contacts on? it should sync your groups.

I need to sync different contact folders on my phone to the computer. But only the main contact folder was in sync. The contacts in the other contract folder would not in sync. Please help

I have no such setting under my Gmail account. I have on/off settings only for "Mail, Calendars, Notes."

This is an iPhone 4 with 4.31.

I currently sync with the "my contacts" group in my Gmail contacts. I have other groups within Gmail contacts I would like to sync to my phone. Is this possible?
