The exact error (in french) is "iTunes n'a pas pu se connecter à cet iPad car une erreur inconnue est survenue (0xE8000003)"

Are you connecting directly to the rear of your iMac?

Thanks for your support. Yes, the cable is directly connected behind the iMac. I will try with another Apple usb cable, maybe the one provided in the box is defect. I'll keep you updated...

Bad news, I've tested with another apple usb cable, same problem.  To be able to play with the iPad, I've started it on my old Windows PC.  It's a shame, my new iMac is unable to connect to the iPad.

When I connect the iPad to the iMac, even when iTunes is not running, the system is frozen for a few seconds. I don't think this behaviour is normal. Maybe iTunes is not the cause of the problem but something wrong in my MacOs config. I didn't find any help on the internet for now.

Here is the log I have in the console after I have plugged the iPad.

This seems strange : Could not create /var/db/lockdown//SystemConfiguration.plist: Input/output error

Any idea how I could fix it ?

Hello, this post to tell you the problem is solved.

It was a problem with the file system of the iMac.  I've started the hard disk utility to check the integrity of the disk and it failed. I've then started the iMac from the CD, started the hd utility again and it was unable to fix the problem (problem with the inodes).  Then, the Mac didn't boot at all.

I've reinstalled MacOS X from the CD, restored my data from the Time Machine backup (hopefully) and now, the iMac synchronise without any problem with the iPad.

I suspect to have a problem with bad clusters in the hard disk but I have to find a software to do a surface check.  If it discover bad clusters, I will send the iMac to the service.
