iOS update 4.2.7 - Device not Eligible with Requested Build

I have a iPhone 4 (CDMA), not jailbroken or anything. I havn't messed with anything hardware wise.

I downloaded the iOS fine, then it asked me if I wanted to update to the iPhone, so i clicked yes of course, and then it says its "Verifying iPhone update with Apple". The the message comes up saying the "device isn't eligible with request build". I check out the more information button, bringing me to an Apple support page that doesn't help me whatsoever.

I even tried restoring it, and it gave me the same message.

I made sure my iPhone is registered with Apple. I don't understand why this is doing this.

If anyone can help me it would be great. THANK YOU

My setup:

Early 2008 MacBook Pro

Mac OS X 10.6.7 (latest at this time)

iTunes 10.2.1 (latest at this time)

Here's my fix:

I found in my case when I previously went to jailbreak/unlock an old iPhone 3GS (prior to coming to a valid Verizon iPhone) that PwnageTool, or some form of jailbreak software, decided to modify the /private/etc/hosts file and created entries that bypassed gs.apple.com (the address apparently used to validate your device) and routed it to an entirely different IP for validation. Removing it from that file and saving it immediately changed it to routing from a 72.* IP address to a 17.112.* IP address and then the phone proceeded to update properly. This would also apply to Windows users who can also have IP's redirect in its own host file, which I would love to provide, but I will need to find a search engine that actually produces the proper result without having to do R&D through pages of use entries - Google is no longer useful for this sort of task. I want to say it's located in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

Hope this helps.
