I have created an album containing the selection of stills I require in my project. then in iMovie clicked the camera icon, selected the album, selected all the photos and dragged them to the project. Then found that about 10% of the stills did not transfer. Went into iphoto again and tried to add these photos individually. They appear to be dragged, a green vertical bar appears at the location but on releasing the mouse nothing is placed in the project. The same action with previously accepted stills works fine. The unaccepted stills are from the same camera as the accepted ones and have not be enhanced in any way.??
Drag one of the problem photos from iPhoto to your Desktop (I assume you are using iPhoto). Open the photo in Preview then File>Save As - JPEG. I appreciate that it may already be in that format, but the process of re-saving can often allow other programs to recognise the file. Now try importing that freshly saved photo to iMovie.

Great to hear that it worked for you! It is a weird problem. Several years ago, I discovered the solution when trying to import a photo into iPhoto. Even though it was a labelled as a JPEG (by another 3rd party program), it just refused to import. I forget the full details now, but opening and saving in Preview did the trick!
