Is $400 a good price for a used Powerbook G4? See Specs...

Hi, I'm shopping around for a used mac laptop and this one has caught my eye, I was able to haggle my way down to $400 but I want to be sure it's worth that much before I get it.

It's a 15" Powerbook G4 Laptop (with brand new Apple battery (not third party) )
Processor: 1.67 GHz
RAM: 2GB
HD: 100GB
Mac OS X 10.4.11 (is this easily upgraded to Leopard or Snow?)

additional accessories

Original AC Power Cord
Bluetooth Wireless Mouse
Incase Neoprene
S-Video to Component video adapter
DVI to VGA adapter

Thanks in advance!

Here's the spec page http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powerbookg4/stats/powerbook_g4_1.6715.html

That's a reasonable price, but I would ask the seller to include the original install/restore discs that came with the PB. If the seller doesn't have them, you can call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a small fee, a replacement set of system discs (if available), can be ordered. The discs will be for the original version of OS, that was pre-installed, when the Mac was manufactured.

The highest OS you can install is Leopard 10.5. Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*.

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate

 Cheers, Tom 😉

imo, I say no... seen macbooks going for that or not much more ~$500, that are a lot faster & Intel based. not to mention the logic boards are prone to issues on these AL PG G4s. so if it goes out, it's not a cheap repair. the macbooks tho don't have as good of graphics or the card slot, but PCMCIA cards are falling out of use & availability anyway. not sure what your overall use is going to be, but I wouldn't count on using it with new software or a daily workhorse. it's pretty long in the tooth as is already & PPC support is drying up too (unfortunately).

it won't run 10.6 snow leopard or later either. 10.5 is likely to fall out of support after 10.7 Lion comes out.

I would check out www.mac2sell.net
