My phone screen stays dark when I pull phone away from my face.

I don't know why, but it seems like if I am on a call for a while (like longer than my auto lock is set for), the screen won't come back on so I can end the call when I pull it away from my head. If i hit the home button the screen comes back as normal. What is up with this!?

Do you have a case on the iphone?

If so, remove it and see if that solves it. A case can block the proximity sensor.

I do have an Otterbox on it. When I pull my phone away from my face the sensor works just fine with the case on it as long as I haven't been on the call a while. Therefore, it must not be blocked.

It seems worth a try, but if you are not willing to try, then don't.

Your only other options would be the basics from the manual:

restart, reset, restore.

If these fail, then make an appointment at the genius bar.

But seriously, you said the situation only happens when you have been on a long call, so maybe the iPhone is just autolockng?
